Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club

2009 Wizard Rock EP Club Newsletter: Vol. 1

Hello Witches and Wizards and Magical Creatures!

Welcome to another year of the Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club! We are thrilled about the upcoming year and we know you are too. If you haven’t heard, this year’s club will benefit the Harry Potter Alliance, an organization that prides itself on being a Dumbledore’s Army for the real world. Last year’s EP Club has already raised over $15,000 for the HPA and First Book, and this year we are expecting similar results. But we need your help! If you love wizard rock as much as we do, and if you love making a difference in the world around you, you can satisfy both of these worthy priorities by subscribing to the EP Club today! We’re limiting the club to 750 subscriptions this year, so these puppies won’t last forever! Puppies!!

The first batch of EPs are being pressed right now and will be heading out to subscribers before the end of April, so get in on the action now!

If you need further convincing, let’s hear from some of the bands who will be wizard rocking for charity this year!

From Milo of Mary and the GrandPres:

Wizard rock saved my life.

Emma Watson picture texted me the other day an image of herself playing ukulele and I was never happier.

The Whomping Willow is a volcano;
When I was in 4th grade I went to get the first three harry potter books autographed (they were the only ones out) and JK told me she liked the shirt I was wearing. It was black and had a small skeleton on the chest. It was from old navy and also had a hole in the arm pit.

Also myspace is a jungle!
Also I think that Wizard Rock shouldn't contain swear words.

JK Rowling taught me how to read in a way that alphabets and my teachers couldn't.
One time when I was approx. 7 years of age I was like "hey big brother play capture the flag with us" and he was like "not now squirt I'm reading" and I was like "are you a dork?" and he was like "This book is SO AWESOME" and it was harry potter 1.

This other time dumbledore died and I cried my eyes out.

What if harry ACTUALLY HAD his mother's ACTUAL EYE BALLS i.e. what if snape or someone performed an eye transplant upon lily's death.

Is art useless if it is not political? Is art reduced to propaganda if it is political?

Mary and the GrandPres are post-wiz rock
whatever that means

I work as a waiter and this bus boy at my restaurant is 13 and he was like "I really hate reading" and I was like "harry potter?" and he was like "nope" and I hit him.
This girl in my lit class was like "harry potter is for babies" and I was about to ask her out and then I didn't.

viva weasley!

I am in a band called Mary and the Grandpres and none of our songs are about Mary Grandpre
None of them are from the perspective of Mary Grandpre, i.e. none of them are about illustrating

People talk about the power of love, i.e. the weapon we have is love, i.e. love conquers hate/love conquers death,
that is intoxicating but I don't know what love is
I have no clue what love is.
Also did we steal this from hippies? Is this a new idea at all?

Ron Weasley >>>>>> Ron Reagan
TAKE A LOOK ITS IN A BOOK - reading rainbow
I neeeeeeed emma's phone #.
abcdefghijk rowling!
make art and be happy.

From Jack of Peeved:

Hey!! I'm super excited to be releasing an EP with this year's wizard rock club. You know when I first got in to wizard rock, the 2007 ep of the month club was actually the first wrock CDs I bought, and was definitely one of the major things that encouraged me to make my own music.

So yea, I'm really thrilled to get the chance to be a part of this, and not just because of all the great bands involved, or because it raises thousands of pounds for charity, but also because I'm pretty lazy, and this is a great way for me get out of having to do CD artwork and postage and all the stuff I'm really quite terrible at... :)

Anyway, hope you're all looking forward to getting all these EPs as much as I am!

From Steph of Tonks and the Aurors:

Our EP for the EP of the Month Club has been an awesome experience to work on. While starting to write the EP, I decided I wanted to write from very specific years in Tonks' life, which lead me to making a pretty intricate timeline of what I thought life from starting at Hogwarts to the Battle of Hogwarts looked like for Tonks. The songs I ended up writing come from 5 specific years. 1984 is the year that Tonks started her schooling at Hogwarts. 1991 finds Tonks a Hogwarts graduate, and contemplating her current relationship. 1993 put her in the middle of her Auror training under Mad-Eye Moody. 1995 brings the Order of the Phoenix, and restlessness that is driving her crazy. Finally, 1998 culminates in a year of firsts and lasts for Tonks and her new family. In my opinion, this concept album features some of the most well-crafted songs that has come out of Tonks & the Aurors, and I'm extremely excited for the EP Club Subscribers to hear it soon.
